The Gleaners Campaign History
In 1999 there was a building fund that launched called “Building the Wall” Pastor John L. Brooks had a vision of five years that we could raise one million dollars to go towards our new church. The goal was met in May 2004. Later in October 2000 The Gleaners Campaign came to life. Many may ask what is gleaners? So, I asked a few of our members what comes to mind when you hear gleaners?
“Power - it gives us drive to push forward”. ⁃ Rochelle Bolden
“Those collecting up after a certain season. Or being able to leave some for someone else”. ⁃ Alicia Carlock
“To pick up the leftovers bit by bit.” ⁃ Kathy Finnell Harvesting -
“A time to store up”. ⁃ Geraldine Perry-Scott
“To sacrifice something and give more than you normally would for our church in a fun competitive way, that everyone can participate in.” ⁃ Schiara Willis
Well, to glean is to gather grain left behind by reapers, or to collect anything little by little or slowly. To go a little further according to Wikipedia gleaning is the act of collecting leftover crops from fields after they have harvested. So, our members were not off by too much.
The Gleaner Campaign is one of our last unique giving campaigns of the year. Just to name the other campaigns that we run throughout the year is Family & Friends Month, Church Anniversary, Vacation Bible School, and Revival. When we first started this campaign those men and women that agreed, each received a cardboard coin holder that held quarters. The campaign designed to collect loose coins and use it to give to our “Building the Wall” campaign. The reward in having Macedonia Men or Macedonia Women placed on the plaque listing each year team that out gave the other and receives the year’s bragging rights.
The Gleaners Campaign was a success and provided so much energy and excitement for our Building the Wall campaign.
The Gleaner Campaign kicked off September 12, 2021, in other words may the best man or woman win!
