Greetings, Macedonia Family and Friends!

These past two weeks have been inundated with the Democratic and Republican Conventions. There were countless speeches. History was made as senator Kamala Harris, the first woman of color ever to do so, accepted her nomination for Vice President on the ticket of a major party. We heard diverging descriptions of America that resembled the Charles Dickens’ literary classic The Tale of Two Cities.  In light of these Conventions and the current state of affairs in our homes, communities, and country, I’d like to reflect back on the 1988 Democratic National Convention where Jesse Jackson (who at that time, had gotten closer to the White House than any black politician in history), coined the phrase, “Keep Hope Alive!” Next, I’d like to fast forward to 2006 when Barack Obama published his book, The Audacity Of Hope — 2 years later, in 2008,  accepting the nomination as the Democratic nominee and subsequently, elected to become the 44th President of the United States. The common denominator here is HOPE!!!

In Psalm 31, David discusses keeping hope in God alive when things appear hopeless and the audacity of maintaining hope in God in the midst of trials and storms. Believed to have been written at a time of great turmoil and affliction, David ends this Psalm saying:

Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.

So today, whatever is going on, whatever troubles, concerns, persecution, or trials you face, be encouraged! Hope in God sustains us!! Hope in God gives us assurance that no problem is too big! Hope in God reminds us that “we are more than conquerors!!”  So, be strong and take heart and have great confidence in God! You will not be disappointed!  Remember, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for...” (Hebrews 11:1) KEEP THE FAITH!!
